Climate change is a global concern that needs serious attention. Principle 10 the URI Charter calls us to act from sound ecological practices to protect and preserve the Earth for both present and future generations. Therefore, our membership are working tirelessly to realize this through their grassroots efforts to combat climate.
Extensive agricultural activities with a high degree of poor farming methods, tree-felling, charcoal burning and brick making are some of the causes for increasing poor environmental conditions in the region. URI-GL has therefore embarked on nationwide and continental capacity building programs for religious leaders and all community leaders to promote environmental education, skills in energy saving alternatives and tree planting campaigns that is geared at awakening and stimulating grassroots participation and concern. With support from the URI Global Environmental Satellite Program and other environmental likeminded organizations, URI Great Lakes works with communities to transform the environment for the better. These programs are spear headed by our CCs contact persons in the respective areas
